Footloose Squares regrets to announce that the club disbanded at the end of 2009.After much discussion the officers and current members agreed on this difficult decision.
There were too few active members able to carry on the events and lend support to a viable schedule. Our last dance was on Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009, with Brad Deibert calling and cueing.
Footloose began in September, 1983 as a singles club sponsored by the Pittsburgh Area Round and Square Dance Federation members Ed and Betty Tatters and John and Dorothy Yurek.
The first caller and teacher was Gary Diehl.
Steve Staub was our second caller and Walt Smith became the teacher.
In late 1988, Walt Smith became both caller and teacher for the club. From 1983 until the end of 1995, dances were held at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Penn Hills.
Starting in January 1996 the club met at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Monroeville, and in July 1996 moved to its present location, the Murrysville Community Center.Although the club began as a singles club, it later accepted couples as members, and guest callers replaced permanent callers.
Footloose holds many fond memories for it’s past members and many guests over the years.
The time together dancing, going on trips and to conventions were such fun.We hope to see you and continue dancing, but not as an organized club.
Our thanks to the many friends and organizations who have supported us through the years.
Paul Eckert, President, and Clara Protheroe, Vice-President.
